Arntz X-CELL M42 Bandsaw Blade: Aggressive Cutting for Work-Hardening Alloys
Arntz X-CELL M42 Bandsaw Blade: Aggressive Cutting for Work-Hardening Alloys
When your shop regularly cuts work-hardening alloys, aerospace-grade materials, or large solid cross-sections, standard bi-metal blades lose their edge fast. The Arntz X-CELL (Article 440) is built specifically for these demanding applications — with aggressive tooth geometry, a hi-lo tooth pattern, and a high chrome premium backer that keeps cutting long after conventional blades give out.
What Makes the X-CELL Different
Most bi-metal bandsaw blades use a standard or classic tooth form. The X-CELL takes a different approach with three purpose-built features:
- Aggressive tooth geometry — engineered to improve penetration in work-hardening applications where conventional teeth glaze over and stop cutting
- Variable set & hi-lo tooth pattern — alternating tooth heights provide added penetration while reducing vibration, with shorter teeth acting as chip breakers for cleaner cuts
- High chrome premium backer — delivers exceptional fatigue resistance for long blade life under heavy feed pressures and continuous production runs
The result is a blade that maintains its cutting edge through materials up to HRC 40 — including the challenging special alloys found in aerospace manufacturing and precision metal working.
Who Should Use the X-CELL
The X-CELL sits in the Expert tier of our bandsaw blade collection, designed for shops cutting:
- Large solid rounds and squares
- Large and very large rectangular stock
- Heavy-walled round tubing
- Work-hardening and special alloys (up to HRC 40)
If your current blade dulls prematurely on tough alloys or struggles with large cross-sections, the X-CELL's aggressive geometry and optimized chip removal will make a noticeable difference in cut rate and blade life.
X-CELL vs. X-PRO MAX: Which One Do You Need?
We carry both the X-CELL (M42) and the X-PRO MAX (M51). Here's how to choose:
- X-CELL (M42) — aggressive tooth geometry with hi-lo pattern. Best for work-hardening alloys and large blocks where penetration is the priority. Five widths from 34mm to 80mm.
- X-PRO MAX (M51) — aggressive tooth geometry with M51 HSS tips for higher heat resistance. Choose this when cutting exotic alloys at higher speeds or when maximum wear resistance matters most.

Available Sizes and Configurations
The X-CELL comes in five widths with two thickness options at 54mm:
- 34 × 1.10mm (1¼" × .042")
- 41 × 1.30mm (1½" × .050")
- 54 × 1.30mm (2" × .050")
- 54 × 1.60mm (2" × .063")
- 67 × 1.60mm (2⅝" × .063")
- 80 × 1.60mm (3" × .063")
Five tooth pitch options are available: 0.75/1.25, 1/1.3, 1.4/2, 2/3, and 3/4 TPI — with specific pitches matched to each width for optimal performance. The R-Tech option (customized backing material) is available for widths 1½" and above.
